The Role
You’ll join a dedicated Infrastructure team responsible for the stability, security and performance of a large-scale Linux hosting fleet.
Operating at true 3rd line level, you’ll focus on the internal infrastructure layer that underpins customer environments. This is not a heavily customer-facing role, instead, you’ll act as a senior technical escalation point for the Support and Enterprise teams while owning deep-rooted infrastructure improvements.
You’ll be a true Linux specialist in a classic hosting environment, working across a mature LAMP stack and ensuring systems remain robust, performant and secure.
What They’re Looking For:
- Strong Linux systems administration experience within a hosting environment
- Confident operating at 3rd line / senior technical level
- Solid hands-on LAMP stack expertise (Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, PHP)
- Manage and maintain Linux servers in a production hosting environment
- Support and optimise LAMP stack services (Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, PHP)
- Perform patching, upgrades and proactive system maintenance
- Monitor infrastructure and respond to alerts and incidents
- Act as a 3rd line escalation point for complex technical issues
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term, structural fixes
- Improve automation and operational consistency through scripting
- Contribute to runbooks, documentation and knowledge sharing
You’ll be supporting internal infrastructure that powers thousands of hosted environments, working closely with other infrastructure and DevOps engineers.
Nice to Haves:
- Terraform
- Ansible
- Bash scripting
- Python
- Automation or configuration management tooling
- Experience with cPanel / WHM
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
Why Join / Projects?
You’ll be joining a well-established hosting provider with a strong technical reputation and a significant installed customer base. The business continues to invest in infrastructure maturity, automation and platform reliability.
This role offers the opportunity to operate as a senior Linux engineer within a focused infrastructure team, less reactive customer support, more meaningful technical ownership.
There’s ongoing work around improving monitoring, strengthening patching processes, refining automation, and enhancing long-term stability across the hosting fleet.
Employee Benefits:
- On-call allowance (£350 per week when on rotation)
- Time off in lieu for overnight support
- Pension contribution
- 25 days holiday bank holidays
- Ongoing training and development support
- Clear progression within the Infrastructure function
