Senior PostgreSQL DBA | AWS RDS, Aurora, PITR | Forensic Data Investigation on a National Public Sector Programme

  • Day rate: £425 (Outside IR35)
  • Location: one day a week in London or Staines
  • Contract length: 6 months
  • Security clearance: SC cleared preferred, SC eligible considered

I'm working with a digital consultancy that delivers for UK government, and they need a Senior PostgreSQL DBA (Database Administrator) for a role built around investigation. You'll dig into data incidents on business-critical databases across a public sector programme, from unexpected changes and deletions to corruption and suspected misuse, and work out exactly what happened.

You'll reconstruct events from WAL archives, point-in-time recovery and audit logs, then write up findings that stand up in security and compliance reviews. It's a senior, independent role at SFIA Level 5, working alongside security, delivery and engineering teams. It's outside IR35, with one day a week on site.

What They're Looking For (Non-Negotiables)

  • SC clearance, or eligible for SC
  • PostgreSQL: senior, hands-on DBA experience
  • AWS RDS and Aurora
  • Backup and point-in-time recovery (PITR)
  • High availability, disaster recovery and logical replication
  • SQL performance tuning and index strategy
  • Root-cause analysis on live production incidents
  • Database security, auditing and logging
  • Written reports for technical and non-technical readers

What You'll Work With

  • WAL archives and transaction logs
  • pgaudit and database activity monitoring
  • Replication streams and archiving
  • Linux and bash scripting
  • Near-zero-downtime migrations and upgrades
  • You'll advise developers and architects on SQL, indexing and schema design

Nice to Haves

  • Database or digital forensics, evidence handling or incident response
  • Central government or other regulated environments
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform
  • Data modelling: 3NF and dimensional
  • Oracle or MySQL to PostgreSQL migrations
  • Git, Docker and Kubernetes (K8s)

Why Join / Projects
This is the DBA role for someone who enjoys the detective work. When something goes wrong in the data, you're the person who works out what happened, proves it, and makes sure the next incident can be traced.

  • You'll set the standard for how the programme logs, audits and recovers its data.
  • You'll advise at senior level, so your recommendations shape how business-critical data is protected.
  • You'll work closely with security teams, with evidence handling and integrity checks at the centre of the job.
  • You'll join a consultancy delivering across several major public sector digital programmes, in an agile setup.

The Package

  • £425 a day, Outside IR35
  • One day a week on site in London or Staines
  • Contract length: 6  motnhs
  • SC cleared preferred, SC eligible considered

If you've rebuilt an incident from WAL and audit logs before and want a role built around that work, apply and I'll give you a call.
