Head of SRE | Azure Environment | FinTech SaaS
We have an exciting opportunity to work for a global company that has developed a SaaS product catering to financial institutions. It offers real-time feeds and pricing of niche financial market information and is compatible with Bloomberg and Reuters. The firm is privately owned and has 500 employees worldwide, with its headquarters situated in London. They are focused on mergers and acquisitions, and they integrate new businesses and technology into the 'mothership'. Plenty of projects to get stuck into here!
In this position, you will be responsible for both hands-on technical work and strategic management. You will report directly to the CTO and spend approximately 60% of your time on technical tasks, specifically with Azure. The remaining 40% of your time will be focused on managing your team, which currently consists of 4 individuals located around the world but will be growing to 6. While you will be inheriting a capable team, you will also need to have a strong understanding of Azure as you will be the final technical escalation point. Additionally, you will collaborate with a total of 33 developers who are split across 3 teams.
Non-negotiables:
- Azure - very strong knowledge required.
- Site Reliability Engineering / SRE - experience leading a team within an SRE environment. Our client is looking to improve and continue to build out a true SRE environment from a process, technical and management perspective. Think of the Google-style playbook.
- Experienced leader and people manager, mentoring and growing the team.
Tech stack you will be working in:
- Azure Cloud - complex global Azure ecosystem.
- CI/CD - Azure DevOps (you will be involved in a project to migrate from Octopus and Team City to Azure DevOps).
- Containerisation.
- IaC - Terraform.
- Configuration Management - Ansible.
- Service Fabric (and a little Kubernetes).
- C#. NET for their core applications.
Cool projects/stuff:
- Create a true SRE function/practice i.e. from the Google-style playbook; establishing SLOs, release management etc.
- Migrating from Octopus and Team City to Azure DevOps.
- Stamp your mark. Look at things that are not good and implement improvements.
- The lift and shift is done, now it's time to re-architect inside the new Azure PaaS environment.
- A focus on reliability and an automation-first mindset will be necessary here.
- 100 different software licenses to be migrated and organised across the business.
- Instilling a DevOps-centric culture
- Establishing a branching strategy for different UAT environments for different squads.
Benefits:
- Hybrid working. There is a "work from where you feel most productive culture" with an expectation to be in the central London office once a week as a minimum.
- 10% bonus.
- 4.5-day working week
